£2,500 Available for Air-to-Air Systems and New Eligibility Rules Confirmed
A major boost for British homes as government looks to expand air to air Heat Pump Grants for 2026!
We have great news for homeowners looking to embrace greener, more efficient heating and cooling. The British government has published a response outlining key forthcoming changes to the current grant system, significantly expanding support for low-carbon technologies from early 2026.
These changes, which are highly anticipated to pass through Parliament, represent a major step forward in making clean home energy solutions more accessible and affordable for people across the South West.
The £2,500 Air-to-Air Heat Pump Grant
The biggest (and perhaps most exciting) change is the introduction of a new, targeted grant for air-to-air heat pumps.
A new grant value to the tune of £2,500 will be available to support the installation of air-to-air heat pumps in British homes.
Air-to-air systems are popular as they provide efficient heating in winter and cooling in a hot humid summer. This expanded grant can dramatically help reduce the upfront cost for many households.
Increased Eligibility and Simplicity for People Applying
The government’s proposed amendments are designed to simplify the installation of an air to air heat pump from start to finish as well as widen the scheme’s reach.
The eligibility criteria are set to be relaxed, making the scheme available to more home installations. Crucially, this relaxation will enable air to air heat pumps to be installed in combination with other electric means of heating. This removes a previous barrier that excluded many systems and provides homeowners with greater flexibility in their home heating strategy.
Upfront Grant Deduction (The “Installer-Deduct” Rule)
To ensure the benefit is immediately felt by the homeowner, a new requirement will mandate that installers must deduct the full amount of the grant from the upfront costs of the eligible air to air heat pump system. This means homeowners won’t have to wait for a rebate – the grant is applied straight to the bill, making things much easier.
Note for Recent Installations: If work has already been completed, the proposal will still allow for a 120-day window to retrospectively apply for this grant.
Consumer Protection and Ownership Agreements
In addition to financial support, the proposed changes focus on improving the experience for all parties involved:
Enhanced Consumer Protections: The government intends to boost the level of consumer protections to ensure high standards of work and customer satisfaction throughout the installation process.
Third-Party Ownership Work: Further work is planned to clarify third-party ownership agreements, which will be particularly relevant for landlords and tenants looking to utilise the scheme.
Record Popularity
These changes arrive as the current heat pump scheme reaches a major milestone, with the 100,000th grant application recently being logged. This clearly demonstrates the growing public appetite and demand for clean, low-carbon home heating solutions in the UK.
